Kennaway trained as a classical pianist at the Royal College of Music in London, where he gained the ARCM Performer's Diploma. After some years of giving recitals and teaching, his interests broadened and he began writing music - mainly songs at first but later with the emphasis on orchestral/instumental music which occupies his time at present. His main influences are the mainstream film composers, such as Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams, as well as his own stepfather, Benjamin Frankel, who was a leading British composer for film and concert hall, much of whose film music Kennaway has reconstructed, arranged and/or edited for commercial recordings on the Naxos and CPO labels.
His own music has been used on American Idol Rewind and also incorporated in various special projects. He recently had a track selected for the "Sit and be Fit" series on American TV, airing October 2008.
